Nick Buckle and The Ones

.From beneath the Gloucestershire town of Stroud, the rumbling of raucous R&B can be felt rising out the gutters and oozing out the drains. For deep under these sleepy streets Nick Buckle & The Ones can be found, hammering out their crafted groove voodoo from their secret cave hide out. This hypnotising green funk has bewitched all thats encountered it, leaving their victims uncontrollably jerking in a state of absolute boogaloosis. WATCH OUT YOU'RE NEXT!

Superjuice

"Theirs is a exciting amalgam of British Indie throughout the ages. Theres some Ian Mculloch style vocals, New Ordery melodies and mid Nineties Elastica/Sleep intros. Throw into that a hint of the Stereo MCs for good measure and Superjuice seem to have covered quite a few British indie bases. For all the comparisons, Superjuice are a rich and imaginative act.

It would be wrong to suggest, or even have it inferred ,that this band are a bunch of 80s-90s plagiarists, cobbling together the best and worst of a couple of decades of British guitar music. Rather, Superjuice provide an entertaining mix of synths and guitars, rhythms and melodies and lyrics and moods. If you want proof of this, look no further than Restless, an energetic fusion of funk and err.fortfulness. It begins with an announcement in a Spanish accent: This is Radio Three-o. What follows is not a performance of The Lark Ascending by the National Orchestra of Spain, but a very groovy tune indeed. The song itself is about summing up the courage to ask a girl out. There is a stomach churning tension in the chords, guitars and the almost rapped out lyrics that allows the lyrics and music to match perfectly. This is the sound of what Jarvis Cocker calls the "slightly sick feeling in my stomach".

All four songs are about a struggle for recognition. What You See is What You Get is exactly what it says on the tin, a song about some having nothing to hide. Restless and Trust in Me are both about trying to get a girls attention even when, in the case of the latter, theres been a lot of deceit in the past. Finally, Cry, despite it jaunty, happy-go-lucky intro is a paean to a dying relationship ("Does she know what shes losing").

This EP is a must-have for Gloucestershires music fans. Each track has a different style and texture, but never loses its distinctive Superjuiciness. Future songs from the band could be very good indeed. What you see is an excellent band. What you get is an excellent band. "
